The Ministry of Education proposes the amendment to the Primary School Act, which envisages a new compulsory subject for seven -year -old technology and digital technology. The explanation states that the objective is « the conquest of digital skills and to raise awareness of the dangers and traps of excessive use of electronic devices ». The profession, which has been working to introduce a compulsory subject of computer science and informatics for many years, is outraged.

There is no detail of the subject of the subject of the seven -year -olds if the amendment of the law is adopted. It is unknown how the new subject of technique and digital technology could be different from the subject that seven -year -olds already have, and is called technology and technology. According to the amendment to the law, the curriculum would be adopted by the end of 2027, and the new compulsory subject would be given 1. September 2028. Since the children will still have to choose compulsory optional items, so as not to have too many hours, the ministry proposes a limit of their number to a maximum of two hours per week (foreign language). In the eighth and ninth grades, the number remains unchanged, that is, with the consent of the parents, a maximum of three hours of compulsory electives per week.

Why did they not follow the proposal of the national education program, in which computer science is envisaged as a mandatory subject in the fifth and sixth grade, the ministry only told us that the proposal for the amendment to the elementary school « is still in public hearing, so the final provisions will be known for examining all comments and in the context of future legislative procedures. » With regard to the course, the scope of the hours and placement in individual classes, they replied that the final decision would be « taken by the competent professional council for general education. It also determines the curriculum and knowledge of the contractors, which are determined in a special part of the educational program. «

Uroš Ocepek He is critical of the proposed: “The name of the object indicates that the content and name have been decided by individuals who do not learn about computer science and informatics. I think that the proposal does not solve the problem, but can further deepen it. Computer science and computer science are among the natural sciences; It examines how to present behavioral patterns, thinking, movement and decision -making to the machine to perform them similarly for us. Technique and digital technologies, however, will in fact teach children the use of digital devices and make even more consumers from children. But our children will still not be competitive in the labor market, because we will only be technology users, but in no way will be creators and creators, let alone innovators. « 

Also, dr. Janez Demšar From the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, UL believes that the proposal is scary: “Obviously, the ministry wants to make a tick and leave the impression that it has done something, although it has not done anything. And he also does not want to do anything because the action would require a more serious intervention in the course. This is an irresponsible mockery from the future of our children and our country. « 

In a statement of the bill, the ministry stated that the subject was introduced due to unenviable results « achieved in international comparisons by Slovenian elementary school students ». Demšar is clear that an object aimed at winning digital skills and awareness will not help: “The countries that overtake us have a seriously designed computing subject after a longer vertical. At the following survey, however, we will be amazed at how our lag did not decrease but further increased. « Similarly, Ocepek believes: » I would propose the subject of computer science and computer science. However, if this phrase is disturbed by decision makers, which is more than obviously for several years, they should introduce digital language. « 

Too slowly

Who will teach the new subject is not yet known. Ocepek says that the current staff, who teaches the technique, is not yet trained: “Likewise, most teachers have not yet. We had an ideal opportunity as the project was a digested teacher, but the proceeds are small. « Demšar is even sharper: » The idea of ​​teaching technique teachers is funny. In comparable countries, ten, fifteen years ago, they thoroughly founded teachers and provided many new ones. In our country, however, we imagine that it will not be necessary, if already, a short seminar will be sufficient. Anyone who is able to teach computer science can get a better job and a higher salary in the economy. « 

Headmaster of the Mengeš Elementary School Sasha Christmas He said that the headmasters will warn the late hands during the comments that can be submitted by Friday: “By September 2028, there are three years. But they do not start from zero, since the Rinos Group prepared everything in 2018 for the introduction of the object, only their report should be taken from the drawer. The amendment to the law, however, gives time for curricula by the end of December 2027. If teachers have one week to review curricula, the competent authorities may also accelerate it. Although there is really no staff, we can gradually introduce the object, as we already do with some other things. « 

Demšar added that it was not just about the knowledge of students: “Although the Slovenian economy, especially the computer industry, in the 1980s, 1990s, was an example for Eastern Europe, we were more or less overtaken today. The consequences of insisting on the ministry in the decision to deprive Slovenian students for the knowledge of computer science and we will only go ‘acquisition and awareness’, and they will still come and will be much more severe and time consuming. «
