Information Services, in ANAF’s affairs

Nicușor Dan spoke, among other things, about the role of information services in combating tax evasion.

In his first press conference, from Cotroceni, the president showed that the services do not carry out checks, but only collect information.

Asked how he will avoid any economic interference, the head of state reminded the importance of civil control.

« This is the general discussion about civil control over information services. One of the measures that ensures that there is a civil control over the services is the presence of a civil director there, » explained Dan.

President Nicușor Dan explained that « Information services do not do controls. They collect information. The controls are done by ANAF representatives and, to the extent that there are suspicions of crime, by the prosecutors. This should be clear: the delimitation between the intelligence services and the activity of the other state bodies. »

The direction it proposes does not concern the direct involvement of the services in operative actions, but the establishment of new priorities in the data collection.

« Information services collect information that is relevant to national security. The discussion is that there is a priority in collecting this information. A priority is the security area, potential terrorist actions, and so on, in the information activity, the tax evasion area will be a priority for the service. »

Answer a question, Nicușor Dan confirmed that he met with SPP chief, General Lucian Pahonțu.

« Of course yes. I met him. It’s about the man who leads and has duties on my personal security, of this institution. We will collaborate and have an evaluation, as I will have an evaluation on the activity of services in general. It will be immediately after we leave the problems related to the Government and the budget, » said the president.
