Sam Jones, who calls himself « biologist and expert in wild animals », was filmed while she picked up the little vombat one late night on a deserted road.
In the video, a man is heard laughing in the background while the influencer enthusiastically runs against the camera with the animal in his hands.
« Look, its mother is running after, » she shouts before posing and lifting the vombatle up to her face. She then explains that it has been a lifelong dream to be photographed with the small marsupial.
The incident has sparked much debate in Australia, where many see it as a disrespectful and potentially harmful behavior towards the animal.
According to experts, separation from the mother can stress vombat kids, which can have serious consequences for their survival.
