Last week, 477 people were confirmed in the flu, indicating high flu virus activity. A week earlier, they were 440 cases.

Since the start of the season, mainly type A viruses have been confirmed, but the proportion of approved B -type B viruses in recent weeks have increased, the center points out.

Influenza, like last season, is mainly found in children under 14 years of age. Last week, the incidence in this age group continued to increase, while the others remained at the average level.

Inpatient flu tests were performed in 821 patients, including 198 cases or 24.1% flu. Type A influenza virus is prescribed in 113 patients and type B influenza in 47 patients.

The highest flu intensity is still registered in Jekabpils region, as well as in Riga, Daugavpils, Jurmala, Rezekne, Liepaja, Gulbene district, Jelgava, Valmiera district and Ventspils.

11 reports of deaths in patients with confirmed influenza infection have also been received. All patients were over 50, all had several side diseases and risk factors.

Since the start of the flu season, a total of 2,832 influenza has been recorded and 55 reports of deaths in patients with confirmed influenza infection have been received. All the dead were over 40 years of age.

Since the start of the monitoring season, there has been a downward trend for the proportion of Covid-19 positive tests, but the proportion of positive samples has increased last week.

769 tests for Covid-19 have been performed last week. Of these, the presence of a virus confirmed in 42 cases. A week earlier it was approved in 33 cases.

The number of inpatient patients with Covid-19 infection has also increased last week. 45 patients are hospitalized, which is 25 more than a week in advance. A total of 59 patients with Covid-19 infection have been treated in the hospital this week, of which the covid-19 had 23 patients with the basic diagnosis. One death for a patient with Covid-19 has also been recorded.

The SPCC recalls that the state -funded vaccination against influenza is currently available to every citizen. Medical facilities can use the vaccines in their stocks to vaccinate patients outside the risk groups.

Vaccination against influenza is still recommended as the flu prevention may continue until the end of May, but immunity after receiving the vaccine develops within ten days.

Vaccination is particularly recommended for seniors and people with chronic illnesses. It is also advisable to vaccinate for those who are planning medical manipulation and inpatient stay.
