After 3.2 percent in January and February, inflation dropped to 2.9 percent in March. However, electricity and rents continue to burden.

The inflation rate in Austria in March compared to the same month last year, the statistics Austria said on Wednesday. In January and February it was 3.2 percent. When shopping, people in Austria had to dig deeper into the wallet. The cost of food and non -alcoholic drinks rose by 3.1 percent. In detail, oils and fats increased by 7.1 percent, coffee by 17.7 percent. Leisure and cultural activities also got more of the money again. On average, the prices here rose by 2.0 percent.

Features cheaper in the year

But not everything became more expensive. The fuel prices decreased by 6.5 percent per year. This dampened the overall inflation by 0.3 percentage points. Flag tickets were also somewhat cheaper at 2.7 percent – after there was still a strong increase of 13.7 percent in February. However, repairing the private vehicle cost 3.7 percent more. Used motor vehicles cost 3.2 percent more, new ones by 0.2 percent less.

ECB target of 2.0 percent in Austria exceeded 0.9 points

With the 2.9 percent inflation (VPI), statistics Austria boss Tobias Thomas sees an approximation step towards the 2.0 percent inflation goal of the European Central Bank (ECB).
