Inflation drives index payment from May
Life in Luxembourg has become more expensive again. In a press release, the Statec institute writes: « In May 2025, the consumer price index rose 0.6 percent compared to the previous month. This is due to the increase in prices for certain services, which was triggered in particular by indexing wages and salaries on May 1st. »
On May 1st, wages, salaries and pensions in Luxembourg rose by 2.5 percent. A month later, the Statec found that the services had increased by 1.3 percent in May. Many tariffs, for example in old people’s homes or for medical services, are also linked to the index.
If the employees earn more in these areas, prices will also be increased. At the daycare centers and Maison’s relay there was even a price explosion of almost twelve percent within one month. In addition, car parking, the services of cleaning staff and restaurant visits were also more expensive.
