The time spent in the barracks will be included in work experience, and the conscripts will have an advantage of employment in public and civil services. It is part of the plan to introduce military service, which, at the very least, caused controversy.

Recall that Andrej Plenkovic held a meeting that included Ivan Anusic, Davor Bozinovic, Gordan Grlic Radman, representatives of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and other close associates of the Prime Minister. They arranged a framework plan for the introduction of military service.

In addition to spending time in barracks, it is also planned that conscripts have an advantage of employment in public and civil services.

Otherwise, the topic of the meeting was the finalization of the defense strategy, the long -term plan to develop the Armed Forces and the amendments to the Defense Act, with a particular emphasis on the introduction of basic military training. The first two documents relating to the defense strategy and the development plan of the armed forces are already updated and adapted to new global challenges.

According to our sources, both documents received the support of all those present at the meeting and will soon send them to President Zoran Milanovic for further agitation. These two documents are key to convening a session of the Defense Council. The third document is amendments to the Defense Act, whose changes will be made by military service.

These changes are currently in the finalization phase, and it has been agreed that additional healing will be required. One of the key changes refers to the serving of civilian military service, which will be an option for all those who do not want to serve military service.

Amendments to the Defense Act should soon enter into public counseling. The document is expected to be in public consultation in June, and the first reading of the law in the Croatian Parliament is planned for July. After a summer break, another reading should be in September, and the vote is expected in October. This document will also be sent to President Milanovic.

This year the entire legal framework for the fundamental military training will be installed, the interlocutor assures us. As the Minister announced, the military service will last for two months, and the conscripts will be entitled to a fee of around EUR 1,100 a month, with accommodation and food.

The conscripts will be arranged in barracks in Knin, Slunj and Pozega. Talking about the financial part, Minister Anusic said earlier that a generation of conscripts will be cost four million euros, and there will be five generations in the whole year, which means that we are talking about the amount of around 20 million euros of total cost at the annual level for fundamental military training.

– When it comes to men, young men who are 18 years old, there are between 18000 and 19000 on an annual basis. Girls have no obligation, but of course, as they come to voluntarily willing to train, we believe that they will still apply in the same issue, which is about 15 % of the total number of conscripts. We cannot evaluate how many of them will invite them to the conscience appeal, but we expect 4000 to 5000 conscripts a year. Less than 5,000 should not be, but I believe it will be more because the benefits we have provided for those who will decide on two months of basic military training will surely be a motivational factor – Anusic has communicated earlier.
