In Zvageli in Zhytomyr region, an indictment was sent to court against a 25-year-old woman suspected of failure to comply with the child’s care.

According to the investigation, her inaction led to the death of the baby, reports Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The deceased boy was the second child in the family. After birth, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

Doctors recommended surgery at the age of 6-8 months. The operation was free, but the mother, knowing about the threat to life, did not send the baby to the medical institution.

Criminal proceedings against the woman began in 2024.

According to the police of Zhytomyr region in a comment « UP. Life », the boy was surgery, but after that the woman did not go to the doctors for further assistance.

The child did not have an official father, although the woman had a cohabitant.

Police have opened proceedings under Article 166 of the Criminal Code (malicious failure to fulfill the child care responsibilities that caused death) and sent it to court.

The woman threatens up to 5 years in prison. The guardianship organs also decided to remove the older child from the family.
