The accident occurred in Washington’s country at the extreme northwest of the country after a trailer with a load of hives overturned on the road.
« 250 million bees are now free, » wrote the Sheriff of the Whatcom district on his website on the social network. « Avoid areas for possible leakage and swarming of bees, » he added.
The roads in the aforementioned region, which lies on the US border with Canada and is only about 48 kilometers from Vancouver, Canada, were closed because the bee experts help cleaning.
While some beekeepers focus exclusively on honey production, many others rent their hives to farmers who need insects to pollinate their crops, AFP recalls.
