In the Slovak government, the UN / Day voting on the vote
The pro -Russian Slovak National Party (SNS) on Tuesday called on Fico to investigate the Slovak vote in the UN General Assembly.
The Slovak spokesman voted in favor of the resolution proposed by Kijiva in demanding the removal of Russian troops from Ukraine and supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Most European Union (EU) countries supported this resolution, but Hungary, Israel and the US voted against.
SNS news agency TASR told that it was strongly opposed to the Slovak vote and claimed that the state spokesman had voted without the necessary mandate. SNS demanded that Slovakia immediately apologize for supporting the resolution.
Slovak Foreign Minister Juray Blanar, who represents the Fico-led left populist party « SMER-SD », rejected SNS's allegations. Despite his close contact with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Blanar defended the Slovak vote, confirming that the Slovak envoy voted following the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
« The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supported by 93 European and other countries, considers a possible compromise proposal, » the ministry said.
On the third anniversary of Russia's repeated invasion in Ukraine, the UN resolution emphasizes adherence to international rights, border inviolability and territorial integrity – the principles that are essential for Slovakia, the ministry said.
Politicians' disagreements on the issue seemed to be a piercing, until Juray Gedra, a politician and head of the Prime Minister's office, re-fueled them on Thursday, announcing that the vote was a mistake that would not help to achieve a peaceful solution to Russia's war against Ukraine.
Fico has not commented on the issue, but he has never challenged the Foreign Minister. They both ordinary pro -Russian views on war in Ukraine.
