Mervelte, the logistics partner in the port of Ghent, is expanding his storage capacity with 16 million liters. Eight large country tanks were transported by pontoon over the water from Antwerp to the port of Ghent. That yielded spectacular scenes along the way.
A feat, so you can safely call the youngest expansion at Mervelte. The family business, specialized in transport and storage of dangerous and non-hazardous liquids in tankers, containers and land tanks, carried eight large land tanks last weekend, good for 16 million liters, from the port of Antwerp to its Seveso site (site where dangerous substances are produced, up or skipped, ed.) In the port near Rieme.
« We can speak of an important expansion, » says the third -generation manager of Patrick Mervielde. Of the eight stainless steel country tanks, six were destined for Oleon, the other two for Fuji Oil Europe. « The six for Oleon each have an impressive volume of 2.5 million liters, a height of 18 meters and a width of 14 meters, » says Mervelte. « The two tanks for Fuji Oil Europe will only be used for nutrients. They each have a capacity of 460,000 liters. »
The route
In order to build the mastodons and get from Antwerp to Ertvelde, a family business in the port of Antwerp specializes in the construction of such tanks, months -long preparation. « We are satisfied that we were allowed to build this project key on the door, » says Jeroen De Bauw, CEO of Ivens. « The storage tanks ready-made delivery is part of our specialty and ensures enormous time savings. »

The works on the grounds of Mervelte started in May last year. After the placement, an extensive finish and test phase follows. The tanks are fully operational within a few months.(ACL)
