In the Myanmar earthquake so far, the bodies of over 3,000 killed, the junta declares a truce in the civil war
The ruling junta in Myanmar today declared a temporary ceasefire in the civil war to ease efforts to help an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, which killed more than 3,000 people.
The High Military Command announcement was announced today on state -run television MRTV, stating that the ceasefire will last until April 22, and the aim is to express condolences to people affected by the earthquake.
Earlier, the groups of armed resistance, opposed to military authorities, declared a unilateral ceasefire.
These groups must refrain from attacking the state or regrouping, as the army will take the « necessary » measures – the army said in a statement.
Earlier today, rescuers recovered three men from the rubble five days after the earthquake. However, rescue teams often extract dead bodies.
The epicenter’s earthquake in Myanmar was also felt in Thailand, causing major material damage.
The death toll has risen to 3,003 today and more than 4,500 injured, MRTV reported. However, the assumptions are that the ultimate numbers will be much higher.
Myanmar already had a humanitarian crisis due to the civil war. More than three million people are internally displaced, and more than 20 million people needed help even before the earthquake – the United Nations said.
