In the live white stork nest on the live broadcast, three new poultry / day continue to grow

Taking into account the broadcast of the broadcasts in other years, such developments were expected. The two chickens, which were most greeted, were more weak, noticeably different from the rest in height.

« The death of white storks in nests is a natural and frequent phenomenon – the birds emerge more eggs, the babies hatch at different times and respectively are different in size, but the smaller ones do not survive very often. – For example, placing the thrown stork in the nest would not be desirable and would be in conflict with nature, « Janis Kuze, an ornithologist at the Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF), comments in the nest.

The natural nesting site of the Bolshels is trees whose branches or the tops of a broken trunk are capable of holding the gravity of the socket (they can weight up to more than 500 kilograms). Given that finding trees with a nest -building branching is not so easy, white storks choose electricity poles as a human -made and suitable alternative place of residence. Currently, almost 80 % of white stork populations in Latvia are nesting on power supply supports.

To make nesting safer for birds, surrounding residents, and reduce the risks of power outages, « Sadales tīkls » is installed in a low -voltage power grid, where safety reasons allow the base of the metal sockets. On the other hand, the detection of dangerous situations, sockets may be removed from the supports for safety reasons. This is done with the permission of the Nature Conservation Agency and mostly outside the stork nesting season.

If there is a desire and the opportunity to accommodate storks in their ownership, recommendations for the creation of an artificial socket can be drawn in the brochure « White Stork Nesting Bases », which is available on the Latvian Ornithological Society (LOB) website www.lob.lv. On the other hand, residents may be interested in the purchase and placement of the supports or ready -made metal bases at local electric installation companies.

LDF live broadcast on the « Distribution Network » website and on the LDF YouTube channel, as well as on the Dabasdati.lv and LDF website (live broadcasts). LDF’s live broadcasts have been provided on the Internet for more than 10 years, but this is the first camera whose technical system is installed on an active overhead power line. Over the past decade, bird watching has gained widespread popularity worldwide, and this live broadcast of white storks is followed by those interested not only from Latvia but also in other countries.
