The whole weekend firefighters of the Railway Administration with the support of firefighters of the Olomouc Region and the Embassy of Hlučín pumped chemicals from damaged tanks. “Today, he will continue to draw. The remains of benzene from very damaged tanks must also be destroyed. Some rail tanks will be taken on the tracks, the most damaged ones will be prepared for the final disposal, ”outlined the plan of today's work spokesman Martin Kavka.
« We have pumped chemicals gradually from all wagons, we are dealing with other procedures, we consult everything with the authorities of the environment and the Morava River Basin, » confirmed the spokesman of the Olomouc firefighters Lucie Balážová.
“We intervene in severe protection due to the hazardous conditions that exist on the fire. Concentrations in air and water with negative results are regularly measured. We use chemical containers, drones and robot. We protect the water surfaces and streams with the knot walls and sorption snakes, ”Balážová described.
According to Balážová, people around the fire should not ventilate. “Another technique for the disposal of the consequences of the accident and the security of the rear will arrive today. There will be 17 units on the spot today, which is about 100 firefighters, ”the spokeswoman said.
Every pumped tank will be inspected by technicians. “At the moment, investigators are at the tanks that were drained. After the investigation, the drawing of other tanks will continue, ”Kavka described.
According to him, in parallel, the investigation also works on the preparations for the removal of damaged wagons. « For example, the wires of the traction line must be temporarily removed, » the spokesman explained.
“Today, the rest of the tanks will be drawn, then what will be solved and how with residual benzene in tanks. The tanks must also be ventilated. First, the tanks will come, which can be cleared easier on the tracks, ”Kavka described.

Regular measurements

“On Saturdays and Sundays, there was a gradual pumping of chemicals into spare wagons. Our aim was to minimize environmental damage. A specialized company was called to dispose of contaminated water, ”explained Lucie Balážová.
“On Saturday, we laid a rug of heavy foam on the fire to make smaller outbreaks and prevent further smoke development. There is no more flame burning at the moment, ”she said.
“There are also members from the chemical laboratory in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. They took samples and gradually evaluated them. All the time we use detection devices at the point of intervention to have accurate information about dangerous substances in the area. The concentration of pollutants in the air did not exceed normal limits, ”Balážová assured, according to which the measurement took place at regular intervals.
Firefighters deployed chemical containers with a supply of equipment for solving emergencies with hazardous substances as well as heavy equipment. “We took advantage of a special tanned Titan vehicle. Colleagues from Slovakia helped us with a fire extinguisher. The fire was monitored through unmanned aircraft with thermovision, ”said Balážová, according to which twenty units of professional and volunteer firefighters intervened on the weekend.
