The new power of Syria, which has overthrown the dictator Bashar Assad, introduced a new conservative dress code on public beaches.
Now women are obliged to wear swimwear that completely close the body, reports CNN.
The Ministry of Tourism stated that the new rules were approved « for the interests of the public. » They will work for both locals and tourists on the beaches and near the pools.
According to the Minister of Tourism, Mazen Al-Salhanany, a bathing suit should take into account « public tastes and sensitivity of different segments of society. »

When moving between the beach and other places, women should wear a beach cape or free cut.
Some restrictions have been introduced for men. In public places outside bathing areas, hotel lobby and food zones, they were forbidden to go topless. Instead, men should wear loose clothes that cover their shoulders and knees and avoid transparent or over -clamping outfit.
But the new rules will not operate in resorts and hotels that are classified as international and premium (at least 4 stars), as well as on private beaches and pools. It is allowed to wear « typical western bathing clothing ».
It is still unknown how the violators of the new rules will be punished. However, the ministry reported that rescuers and beaches will be monitored by the dress code.
The new rules reflect the influence of the Islamist coalition of Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham (HTSh), which heads the transitional government of Syria. Earlier, when it was known as the organization of the An-Nusra Front, the United States and the United Kingdom recognized it terrorist.
Recall that at the beginning of 2025 the Provisional Government of Syria announced about changes to the school program with an « Islamist bias ». He replaced some words from the Qur’an and removed the section on « Origin of Life ».
