In Russia, the election observer organization Golos is sentenced to prison sentence / day
After serving the sentence, Melkoyanc has been forbidden to do public activities for nine years, the Moscow Basmannoje court ruled.
Melkoyancam counted the time spent in pre -trial custody after the formula « Day for a day » – so from five years he has been sentenced to a little over two and a half years from the sentence, Mediazone points out.
The prosecutor’s office requested Melkonyan’s maximum sentence under this article – six years in prison.
Melkoyancs has been in custody since August 2023.
The criminal case against him is related to the activities of the European Election Observation Organization Network (Enemo), which co -founder was the « Golos » association.
Enemo was declared a « unwanted » organization in Russia in September 2021. However, neither the « Golos » or its predecessor – the « Golos » association, which was eliminated after inclusion in the « foreign agents » register, has never declared « unwanted » organizations.
When Enemo was recognized as « unwanted », the « Golos » association no longer existed, and the public movement of the same name is not a member of Enemo, recalls « Mediazone ».
A public accusation spokeswoman said at the hearing that the « Golos » movement was created on the base of the same name « Association », which later became « unwanted » in a recognized Enemo.
