At the end of April, the Financial Administration (Furs) employees seized a large shipment in Sežana. She arrived in Slovenia from Thailand through the Netherlands, but was then intended to return to the sender. The shipment was declared as nine pallets of tea, but more detailed control revealed that almost a ton of cannabis was hiding during the tea.

The decision for a more detailed examination with samples was made because it was an importer of the consignment as a Danish entity, which has not yet appeared in Slovenian customs procedures. The sampling was left to the Food, Veterinary and Plant Protection Administration in accordance with the competences.

They handed over six samples to the Food Safety Administration. They did not find irregularities at five, and one suspected of deviations that it might be a illicit drug. Koper criminals were informed of the suspected Furs. These performed an additional examination of the shipment and sent suspicious samples to an analysis of the national forensic laboratory.

Criminologists have not yet detained any suspect at this stage, and they continue to collect notices for the establishment of origin and the final recipient of the illicit drug. They also check the entire logistics network involved in the smuggling attempt.

According to Grandic, they estimate that seized cannabis on the black market would reach around € 2.3 million. Such a crime is otherwise a prison sentence of one to fifteen years.
