In Narva, the turn on the border is again – the authorities are thinking about installing benches
On Monday, June 16, in Narva, a long line was again lined up by the border. The local authorities of Narva said they were discussing the opportunity to improve the infrastructure near the border post, but for acceptable money, writes Rusdelfi.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Estonia explained that the night discovery of the checkpoint will not solve the problem, and the redistribution of the load will deteriorate the situation in the daytime, which will create the risk of even more influx of people. He noted that if the lines are too long and the conditions are dangerous, the border point in Narva can be completely closed. “At first they themselves closed the checkpoint at 23:00, and now they are still threatened with a complete stop,” – this is how users of social networks reacted to the situation with the burst.
Commentators in the thematic group “Narva-Ivangorod border” indicate a lack of employees on the Estonian side, constant rotation and the danger of their burnout. Some criticize a sanctions policy, others recall that tourists leave money in Estonia, and it would be possible for them to organize something “decent” near the border. It is not clear to many why the electronic queue is still not used for people by analogy, as the line for cars was organized before, the second checkpoint is not open.
To the question about the second checkpoint in Narva, the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Tarot answered ERR that the restriction of movement and trade with Russia is the obligation of the states condemning the war, and at the moment there is no reason to open the Narva-2 point. He recalled that the Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends, if necessary, to use the checkpoint in Koydula and Luhamaa.
According to Tarot, the development of infrastructure outside the checkpoint is not in the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but local authorities can create conditions for waiting on their territory.
The mayor of Narva Katri Raik replied to Rusdelfi that in the city is discussing improvements to infrastructure near the border post. According to the mayor, the installation of benches and the possible placement of a kiosk with drinks and food are considered to facilitate waiting conditions. But if the benches can be delivered relatively budgetary and quickly, then the installation of a kiosk will require, according to preliminary calculations, about 600 thousand euros, because coordinations, the creation of the project and other mandatory actions will be needed. The mayor added that the opinions among the townspeople are also different, not everyone considers it necessary to spend the Narva budget on improving the infrastructure around the border room, but believe that it is worth spending it on roads and other objects for those who live in the city. “In any case, we are discussing this issue now, and soon a decision will be made,” Katri Raik summed up.
