In Moscow, traffic grew in restaurants and cafes

On the only warm week of April, the traffic of visitors increased in catering establishments and Food Halls. This was also facilitated by the opening of summer verandas, the placement of which is now easier to coordinate with the mayor. This format in warm weather allows restaurateurs to generate additional revenue.

At the 16th week of 2025, that is, from April 14 to 20, traffic in Moscow cafes and restaurants located in the center and near cultural, historical and leisure spaces grew by 9% by the year, in food numbers by 6%, calculated at Kommersant in Focus Technologies. At the same time, from January 1 to April 13, traffic in institutions in the center of Moscow was at the level of last year’s values, and in the food soils is 4% lower, analysts clarify.

In Tanukifamily (Network « Tanuki », « Yersh », « Your Pizza ») from April 14 to 20 noted the growth of traffic by 7% year by the year. The company is associated with good weather: in such a period, the townspeople usually do not sit at home. On the only warm week of April, the traffic of visitors was redistributed in favor of institutions located in places with high cross -country ability, the head of the research and consulting department of Focus Technologies Mikhail Vasiliev agrees.

Usually, as soon as warm weather is installed, Muscovites get out of the city, and in cool or rainy weather, on the contrary, they often go to restaurants or order home delivery, says Alexander Muratov, the development director of the Yakitori franchise network.

In this network last week from April 21 to 27, when the cold returned to Moscow, traffic was 5% higher than in the previous week, and the number of delivery orders increased by 7%.

An active opening of verandas also contributed to the growth of attendance. From April 1, the first sites began to work on the streets: more than 900 verandas are already ready to receive guests, and more than 4 thousand planned to open them in total, half of which will be located in the center of the capital, the Moscow city hall previously reported. In 2025, the city authorities simplified the procedure for placing verandas. Now, as a notifying manner, without the approval of the project of an architectural and artistic solution, it will be possible to place summer verandas, for which the installation of structures and equipment is not required, that is, umbrellas, tables, chairs and compact elements of flower design.

The simplified procedure for placing the veranda stimulated restaurateurs to open more summer cafes, says Maxim Popov, founder of the STREAT.

In the warm season, the veranda generates additional traffic, and therefore additional revenue, Alexander Muratov notes. In the warm season, people try to choose establishments with the verandas, since this time does not last very long and not want to miss the opportunity, the consumers do not want to, adds Mr. Popov.

This year, we can already talk about the restoration of the catering market as a whole after a series of crises and then traffic will only grow, like the number of new food halls and restaurants, Maxim Popov is sure. For example, the founder of Zemskiy Group (controls the EAT Market Food Hall network) Vladislav Zemsky expects a 22%speed of revolutions of his network by 2025. The number of food halls will also grow: in the NF Group, it is predicted that in 2025, 25 such spaces with a total area of 93 thousand square meters will open throughout Russia. m, while in 2024 28 new objects were launched (44 thousand square meters).

At the same time, 2024 was not rich in the discoveries of new restaurants. Then only 200 new catering establishments appeared on the central streets of Moscow, which is 26% less than a year by the year (See “Kommersant” from January 31). One of the restraining factors was a shortage of free premises. In 2024, the minimum level of vacant areas, which is suitable for catering operators, was recorded in the last five years – 7.7%calculated by analysts.
