Martin. The situation with jaundice does not stop, hepatitis A is still spreading. Three cases were confirmed in Martin in the week of 12, but 107 people are supervised in connection with them.
The most monitored contacts is at one of the Martin elementary schools. Martin’s hygiene has the situation under control, everyone was ordered to vaccinate.
They follow children and relatives
Disease of dirty hands occurs in all regions. Only in Prievidza from October last year to 12 were registered with 122 VHA diseases. According to Mária Marušiaková, director of the Regional Public Health Authority in Martin, last year, eight diseases of VHA appeared in our region, this year is not even halfway and the number of cases has reached last year’s number.
Last week, Martin’s hygiene registered three cases, namely children. Two are pupils of Martin elementary school, one goes to kindergarten. 71 people are watched in the school, 17 children in a kindergarten. The remaining close contacts under the supervision of doctors are relatives. The first symptoms may occur within 50 days.

Both devices are governed by the hygiene instructions. « There were specific measures in school facilities, such as increased disinfection of the environment and contact areas, the allocation of tables and dishes in the school canteen, the allocation of sanitary facilities and a reduction in physical exertion, » explained Mária Marušiaková.

Regional hygienist recalls that this is a highly contagious infectious disease in which it should be maintained increased hand hygiene. They should be thoroughly washed after the toilet, before eating, arriving from the trade and traveling by public transport.
« In relation to the increased occurrence of VHA in Slovakia, preventive vaccination was also recommended to people who were not identified as close contacts of the sick. Even when traveling abroad, » he says. The Regional Office of Public Health in Martin is set up a vaccination counsel.
The disease begins with symptoms resembling influenza and gastrointestinal symptoms associated with abdominal pain, joint pain, general nausea and elevated temperature.
« In a few days, most of the sick jaundice will occur, but not for all. The disease is mostly easy to do, it is not prone to chronicity. The more difficult clinical course is recorded in adults, » explains Mária Marušiaková.
The first symptoms may occur at least 15 days and a maximum of 50 days from contact with the infected person. Symptoms of the disease usually last from two to seven weeks.
Four patients are hospitalized in Martin’s hospital. « Two of them are from the Trenčín region, as we help the Bojnice hospital, » said hospital spokeswoman Katarína Kapustová.
As stated, the incidence of hepatitis has increased slightly over the past months, but it is not possible to talk about an emergency.
