In Marseille, the closure of night grocery stores for one month – Liberation
Marseillais, forget the bottle bought at 11 p.m. between two evenings, the cookies for the Boat return cravings or the flash passage at the bottom of your home to buy layers for the youngest: you will find the closed curtain in all the night grocery stores in the city center. Friday, April 18, the Bouches-du-Rhône police prefecture extended the decree imposing a closure from 10 p.m. to 6 am to the Centrre-Ville nightfish, after a first period of experimentation which ran from March 21 to April 21.
To justify the measure, the decree mainly points to « Public order disorders » surveys near these establishments: « Consumption of alcohol or nitrogen« , » Aggressive behaviors, arguments, brawls and anarchic parking lots « … Nuisances that would particularly flower « As spring approach ». All attested by « Many complaints from residents » or neighborhood associations, police interventions and verbalizations are no longer enough to « End these troubles », underlined the decree.
Night grocers dispute for their part a measure endangering their profession. At the beginning of March, a dozen managers of convenience stores had filed a summary request after the program by the prefecture of police of the decree, but they had been dismissed by the administrative court of Marseille. At the helm, their lawyer had stressed that jobs were threatened by the measure, relating to « Very important loss of turnover »supporting accounting documents. « They wouldn’t be called night grocery stores if they were having their figures during the day … », had added Me Simon Bechelen.
Mohamed Ben Medour, spokesperson for night grocers, deplored Friday Near Bouches-du-Rhône : « Some traders will die with this extension, a month it was already very hard, two more some will put the key under the door. The sunny days are coming, we will deprive the Marseillais of shops which allow you to go shopping at nightfall.»»
