The original version of the legendary space saga « Star Wars » will be shown in London.
The show will take place during the British Institute of Cinematography on June 12, writes The Guardian.
It is likely that this is the first public display of the original version since December 1978. Since then, it has been used to view at home.
The version of the 1977 film, which started a multibillion -dollar franchise, was rarely displayed in public. The director and screenwriter of the tape George Lucas released special editions of the original Star Wars trilogy and began to make changes to his film during his re -display in 1981.
This caused a lot of discontent among fans. Especially the scene in which Gan Solo performed by Harrison Ford first shot the hunter behind the heads of Grido in the cafe Mossi Aisley on Tatuin.
In a special 1997 edition, this episode was changed: Grido now fired the first to give solo more self -defense grounds. Later, it was edited again, making it so that both characters shoot almost simultaneously and then quite at the same time.
Another unpopular change was the addition of CGI-giant snail Jabba Hatt. It first appears only in the last movie of the original trilogy – « Return of Jedi » (1983).
In 2004, George Lucas said the Associated Press that he was « sorry, that the audience saw half a complete movie and fell in love with him, but I want him to be the way I want to see him. »
« We strive to show the originals of the films that came on the screens at the time they were released. One of the ambitions of the BFI festival – to show the originals that transfer the audience at the time when the movie first came on the screens to give them a special emotional connection.
In the case of the Star Wars, the Festival show is a unique opportunity to present the movie to the audience in the same form in which they watched it in 1977, « , – said James Bell, a senior curator of feature films in the British Film Institute (British Film Institute.
BFI reported that Lucasfilm and Disney gave permission to show the original version of the movie. Instead showing the original slicing « Empire strikes in response » (The Empire Strikes Back) or « Return Jedi » (Return of the jedi) are not planned.
