In Lithuanian cinema – an unprecedented story

1950 J. Lukša, together with Bronius Trump and Juozas Širvis, was looking at the American plane in the Tauragė district, Žygaičiai forests.

« Some people hang on a tree, then get lost in the forest, the exit to the locals, where they find out where they descend. So they travel home, but remain an unrealized cargo, » said Ernest Kuckailis, a military history researcher.

Lukša’s attitude was one of the last attempts to strengthen the guerrilla struggle against the Soviet occupation.

« Two young people find the cargo, then call the third. They disassemble the cargo and find a lot of things inside, calls. Reads the headline » Freedom comes from the West « and understands where the cargo is from, » Kuckailis said.

« My role is Juozas Marozas, who is still alive to this day. Then he was about 20 years old, » said actor Žygimantas Kuckailis.

The creators hope that the film will not only become a suggestive part of historical memory, but will also inspire a new generation to take an interest in the history of Lithuanian freedom struggle.

« This story has not been researched. It is difficult for the historian to delve into a paratrooper surgery, a special operation such as leaning on the back of the enemy. This is a study that requires specific knowledge, » explained the military history researcher.

Historical costumes reconstructor says it took years to recreate clothing.

« Either original items are searched or sewn, and it takes several years to study those things, because every detail is specific, » said Ramūnas Skvereckas, a reconstructor of military history.

The most difficult was to restore the 1938 paratroopers’ outfits. There were only two backpacks in the world.

« Munich’s backpacks were made, so we had to hunt for them at auction. We only found two in the world, although we needed three. With the help of the German community, they were planted to Lithuania with the help of the German community, » said Skvereckas.

However, it was not the restoration that succeeded. This will be used by modern technologies that are extremely popular in Hollywood films.

« We are preparing a digital twin aircraft substitute to portray a parachute leap from the plane.

The film director says his goal is to allow the viewer to understand how people felt at the time.

« It is always interesting how to react to novelty, strangers, » said director Richard Matačius.
