In honor of this event, a flower -laying ceremony will be held at the Riga II Forest Cemetery at the Riga II Forest Cemetery. Supreme officials of the state – President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (JV), members and deputies of the Saeima Presidium, ministers, representatives of the Constitutional Court and members of the family of Chakste – will participate.

The Constitutional Assembly gathered for the first sitting on May 1, 1920, and the people celebrated its gathering with excitement, with the support of the streets in support of manifestations.

The Constitutional Assembly, whose task was to develop an independent constitution of Latvia, was elected on modern, Western European progressive principles – democratically, giving electoral rights to both genders, respecting the interests of national minorities and other freedoms.

On April 17, 1920, the Constitutional Assembly elections, almost 85% of the registered voters arrived on April 17 and April 18. The Constitutional Assembly was formed by various political forces. There were Social Democrats, Latvian Civic Party, National Minorities and other parties.

Initially, 150 Members of 16 lists were elected at the Constitutional Assembly. In the autumn of 1920, it was supplemented by two more deputies from the North Vidzeme regions, where elections were not held in April, as they were still under the control of the Estonian army.

The President of the Constitutional Assembly became the Chairman of the People’s Council Cakste. The first president of the people’s elected legislature also performed the head of the country.

The main task of the Constitutional Assembly was the development of the Constitution. At the same time, it also passed a number of other laws. It was on the agenda of public administration and judicial work, Latvia’s territorial division, financial and social system, as well as many other issues. The Constitutional Assembly worked for more than two and a half years and during this time it came to 213 meetings.
