In Kocani physical therapy is provided for 40 people and over 70 injured in the tragic fire

The situation in the General Hospital with extended activity in Kocani is extraordinary after the return of most injured by hospitals in Skopje and other countries over their rehabilitation and further treatment of injuries.

Two months after the tragic fire at the Pulse Club, young people who suffered burns receive physical therapy, for which special departments are provided, and daily injuries are performed.

– There are dedicated premises of the Departments of Surgery and Neurology, to avoid congestion and waiting in front of the practice. With the injured, a physical medicine specialist with three physiotherapists who completed the additional training conducted by the support of the World Health Organization last week. In addition we have another specialist doctor and three therapists from the hospital in Stip. People with burns are made by two surgeons, four instruments and additional teams with plastic surgery doctors from Skopje. Currently, about 40 injured are receiving physical therapy, and dressings are made in more than 70 people – said Kristina Serafimova, director of the General Hospital.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, treatment and rehabilitation will take at least one year, and the efforts of medics are to allow the injured to function as soon as possible.

– These are three types of symptoms that occur in the injured. In those with burns there are contractions, ie stiffness of the joints in the areas where the injuries are, and it is mostly the hands. Other children, who are injured in the stampede, have a crush of lower extremities and thirds, with carbon monoxide intoxication, having additional symptoms, which are performing breathing exercises to increase pulmonary capacity – adds Serafimova.

Yesterday, contact with the cancer of the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Kozle from Skopje was made, and it was agreed that teams from doctors and nurses to attend the hospital in Kocani to help better rehabilitation of the injured.

The latest facilities of the Kocani General Hospital were built in the early 1980s, and the rest were seven decades ago, and the health institution needs recovery from both a spatial point of view, but also with equipment.

« Most of all we lack medical staff, and the whole hospital lacks a nice renovation, » concluded the director of the General Hospital – Kocani.
