In Kaunas public transport, changes are matured
The aim of the project
This month, Kaunas city politicians will consider whether to spend on a driving ticket in public transport with a bank card or a smart device linked to it. Currently, the ticket can be paid by the Grasshopper Gadget. The ticket for cash can also be purchased with the driver.
« The solution is needed to further facilitate public transport billing. The measure is designed to attract people who rarely use city buses or trolleybuses, including tourists and other guests of the city, » said Martynas Matusevičius, Head of Transport and Traffic Management.
The proposed amendment to the project aims to create an alternative to the passenger to choose a payment method for a one -time ticket in public transport. It also aims to reduce the burden of drivers by selling tickets for passengers, increasing public transport speed, encouraging Kaunas city residents, guests and tourists more frequently by public transport.

How will the settlement go?
It is stated that you will not need to interfere with a bank card to pay for a ticket. The ticket will be bought with the existing ticket marking composters.
“Passengers will be able to purchase a one -time ticket in Kaunas City Public Transport in E. Ticket Composter using MasterCard, Visa, Visa Electron contactless bank cards. Payments can be made by both physical contactless cards and smart devices: watch, phone, payment ring, etc., ”says the explanatory draft solution.
It is true that these changes will require passengers to adjust their habits, as only one card – a bank or grasshopper – will be able to close the composter. So far, a frequent passenger has been close to the composter’s entire wallet full of different cards. After activating the composters, the card payments will require you to close the exact card to prevent twice or even triple payment for the trip if more than one bank card has been inserted in your wallet.
Settlement with contactless card will cost one euro – as much as it costs when buying a paper ticket to the driver.
Although the decision has not yet been accepted, passengers can already see stickers on some buses and trolleybuses on the composter, warning only one card.
Only the full price
If the Council approves the change, the bank card will be available in Kaunas public transport from 1 August. However, it should be noted that the card or smart device will only be able to pay for the full price ticket. Passengers in this form will not be able to purchase preferential tickets.
« The contactless card payments will cost one euro – the cost of buying a paper ticket to the driver. The same composters will be used.
Kaunas residents who use the city buses and trolleybuses every day buy preferential tickets with a mobile app or « Grasshopper » card, ”explained M. Matusevičius.
In addition, the preferential ticket will be available to the driver by cash payment. As the city specialists note, the contactless bank card will be an additional way, and no other use of the journey for the trip will be destroyed.
The Kaunas Council will consider the issue of bank card on city buses and trolleybuses on June 10.
