From July 15, the tax-and-so-so-so-law department (NTD) will begin to retroactively issue tax notifications on a vehicle for vehicles for vehicles, the temporary exclusion of which has ended from the road transport register or the vehicle with a suspended entry was again commissioned. On July 1, the Department of Transport will open in electronic service the possibility of a request for a return of the registration fee in cases where the vehicle is sold abroad and excluded from the road transport register.
Returning the NTD will issue tax notifications by about 17,000 vehicles, whose temporarily excluded or suspended registration was restored from January 1 to June 30. For such vehicles, the NTD calculates the annual tax in proportion to the day following the record in the road transport register, until the end of the year. “For example, if the vehicle was temporarily excluded from the road transport register on December 25, 2024 and the registration record was restored on January 20, 2025, then the tax vehicle tax is calculated not for the entire calendar year, but 20 days less. The vehicle tax is calculated from January 21 to the end of the year, ”said Madis Laas, head of the income tax of NTD.
Director of the Road Traffic Service of the Department of Transport Joel Jesse draws that if the vehicle is temporarily removed from registration and is not yet wanted to put it into operation, then before the expiration of the period it is necessary to extend Temporary removal of the vehicle from registration.
“If the temporary withdrawal from registration ends within the prescribed time and was not previously extended, then the NTD gives a tax notification in proportion to the tax period remaining until the end of the year from the day following the day of the recovery of registration. You can check the data and extension of the temporary withdrawal from the registration of your vehicle conveniently in the electronic service of the Department of Transport, ”said Joel Jesse Director of the Road Service of the Department of Transport.
After July 15, the owner or responsible user of the vehicle with a restored entry in the road transport register will be issued a notification of tax for a year within 15 business days, and the tax should be paid by December 15. If in 2025 the vehicle will be again temporarily excluded from the register or the registration record will be suspended, then by law this will not change the amount of the tax amount and the tax is not returned.
Under certain conditions, from July 1, you can apply for a partial return of the registration fee administered by the Department of Transport. This is if the vehicle was paid for registration, and the vehicle was subsequently sold from Estonia abroad and excluded from the Road Transport Register of Estonia.
