In his twenties under the influence, vitrine, 100 -year -old old -timers, just escaped ravage: « He has already called to apologize » (Roeselare)

Roeselare

In the night from Friday to Saturday, a twenties with his Mercedes the showcase of JB Motorsport in Roeselare drove in. The havoc is huge, but the driver remained unharmed as by miracle. He had drunk too much and immediately played his driver’s license for fifteen days. « He has already called to apologize, » says manager Yves Olivier.

A 27-year-old young man from Roeselare rode around half past twelve at night with his heavy Mercedes C300 through the Kachtemsestraat in Izegem. At the Rondpunt with the Zwaaikomstraat, the young man just went straight ahead. He may fell asleep behind the wheel, although it turned out later that he had also drunk too much. A saliva test was negative.

In the middle of the roundabout, he already scamped the border stone and some planting with his car, and then ran straight on the glass wall of the JB Motorsport showroom. The twenties went straight through a low wall and also rode some heavy iron posts from the floor before he finally crashed the glass. (Read more under the photo)

Old -timers

Three large windows shattered and the glass fragments flew far in the round. Behind the display case stood two special vintage cars, who were narrowly spared. « Those cars were my father, they are more than a hundred years old, » says Yves Olivier (50), manager of Olivier Construct, among others.

« My father loved those cars and I also drove rally myself, so I left them out of nostalgia in the showroom. Although it is now mainly used to show steel concrete from Olivier Construct. I immediately went to watch when I received a message about the accident. » (Read more under the photos)

Apologize

« The damage is great, but the most important thing is that the boy remained unharmed. He is lucky that he was driving with a strong car, there was even an iron pole under his car. This morning he already called to apologize. »

« We will see on Monday how we will solve the damage. I have already seen that not only the three windows are damaged, but also the metal structure in between. Perhaps it will also have to be replaced. In the meantime, the showroom can simply remain open. »

An employee of the company was already busy on Saturday to clean up the rest of the glass shards. (Read more under the photos)

The fire brigade arrived just before 1 o’clock in the morning to check the stability of the building and temporarily replaced the broken windows with wooden panels.

The Mercedes of the twenties had to be towed and is perhaps ripe for the scrap heap. After the findings for fifteen days, the police withdrew his driver’s license, perhaps he will have to answer before the police court.
