In good typecast ‘Riff Raff’, Boontje comes to his wage

It votes a bit madness, but the film world is full of lives such as that of Dito Montiel (1965). Singer of various Country Macho hard rock bands, best friend of Channing Tatum, debuted in 2006 as a film director with the autobiographical coming-of-age A guide to recognizing your Saints. A bit of a classic in the genre: famous writer returns to his roots and remembers his gang history. The young and the old ditto were played by Shia Labeouf and Robert Downey Jr. You can find it worse.

Yet Montiels career did not get off the ground. And suddenly it is understandable why he must have been attracted by the play where his most recent crime comedy Riff Raff is based on. The plot is known: Boontje comes for its wage. When the son of one kills the son of the other, revenge ignores. It would just be a parallel universe of Saints And so can be his own life. Full of complex father-son relationships, full of reflections on what a life as a crumb criminal (whether or not) leads. Full of crime melancholy and regret.

With Ed Harris, Bill Murray and Jennifer Coolidge in good typecast roles, there is plenty to experience: lots of text, many aside, many revelations because many characters who have something to conceal. Sometimes messy, often predictable. The most interesting is the youngest son, who occasionally shares his thoughts through a voice-over. Nice debut also from actor Miles J. Harvey. It is a genre that causes back to the nineties, to the young Tarantino, to the films that Montiel itself grew up.
