In Budapest, an event in gray to make fun of the ban on the march of pride – Liberation

« The resemblance is fashionable », « censorship »… Thousands of demonstrators in dull clothes brandishing satirical signs came down to the streets of Budapest this Saturday, April 12, making fun of the recent measures of the Prime Minister, Viktor Orbánagainst the diversity and rights of LGBTQ +people.

The rally of this Saturday was held at the call of the Hungarian Party of the Dog with two tails (MKKP), a parodic movement recorded as a political party in response to the recent adoption of a law intended to prohibit annual pride march under the pretext that it breaks the highly criticized law of « Child protection » Hungarian. The new law, passed in procedure accelerated in Parliament, also allows authorities to verbalize people organizing or assisting the event and using facial recognition software to identify possible offenders.

Monday, Parliament must vote on an amendment to the Constitution which will strengthen the legal bases of the prohibition of the march of pride. The recent measures had already caused previous protests in Hungary, thousands of people blocking bridges from the capital every Tuesday to request the repeal of the law prohibiting pride. The organizers of the latter assured that they are still planning to organize this year’s event, scheduled for June 28. A dozen European parliamentarians have announced that they would participate.
