In Avignon, a villa for the creation of tomorrow – Liberation
In Avignon, The creative villa proposes to confront scientific, educational and artistic knowledge to create new knowledge. An event that Release is a partner.
THE FEstival d’Avignon Joyfully welcomes the opening of the creative villa this summer and is delighted to inaugurate a new place for its edition. A villa, in essence creative, could only meet the challenges and values of a festival that has done – since 1947 – of creation, crossing of disciplines, generations and audiences, its priority. This creative villa initiated and carried by the University of Avignon and its public and private partners, comes to be part of the open -air laboratory dynamics of the living arts that the Avignon Festival bears all year round. It also highlights the essential and necessary link between culture and university, between art and sciences, unifying fields different from research.
To inaugurate this new cooperation cycle with the Villa Créative and Avignon University, the Avignon Festival wanted to set up a transmission program in the villa which represents one of its four major artistic axes: « impossible transmission ».
This project imagined by and with Mathilde Monnier, and supported by the Hermès company Foundation and several national and international cultural partners, will bring together for two weeks this summer around thirty emerging artists from ten countries. A true HQ of this « summer school », the creative villa will welcome them every day for a work program, meetings with publishing artists but also other live performance professions. Every day, they and they will discover the shows of the publishing, and through this program mentored by Mathilde Monnier, Ahmed El Attar, Bouchra Ouizguen and Mehdi Morad, will prepare a collective work presented to the public on July 13 and 14, as an instant memory, an archive in the process of publishing.
It was obvious for the Festival to support artistic emergence in a place where transmission and research are preserved from the logics of immediate efficiency and profitability. At the creative villa, thought is permanently nourished and the attempt is a success and a richness in itself.
Beyond the impossible transmission program, it was relevant to add to our occupation of the creative villa this summer several meetings which will bring together research and teaching partners, like meetings of the A+U+C networks and tras, or even days of the university and cultural partners of the Sacre Cycle, with the School of Art in Avignon and the School of Fine Arts in Lyon.
From July 5 to 26, the Avignon Festival offers each and everyone, whether it is a first time or reunion, to celebrate the luck and the pride of being together. Celebrate in conscience, celebrate despite what disturbs the world and beings. Celebrate art, artists, audiences. A laboratory of living arts in the form of a civic party, where the creative villa will fully play its role, led to perpetuate itself over the next few years.
