Argentine President Javier Mile has declared a seven -day national mourning over Pope Francis’ death, the country’s presidency said today.

« The president declares seven days of mourning for the death of the Holy Father, » spokesman Manuel Adorne wrote in a brief message on the X network.

Pope Francis, the Argentine Pope, died today at the age of 89.

Mile had previously expressed deep sadness for the news of the Pope’s death and welcomed the Pope’s goodness and wisdom despite the differences, which, as he said, today, look insignificant.

« As president, as an Argentine and essentially as a man of faith, I forgive myself by the Holy Father and stand by all those who face this sad news today, » said Milej.

The ultralibular Argentine president, over the years as an economist before being elected president at the end of 2023, has repeatedly criticized, even insulting Pope Francis, which he called « leftist, wicked person and imbecil », reports Beta.

Later, Javier Miley significantly reduced the tone when he was elected, apologized before he was admitted to the Vatican only two months after the presidency of the presidency in February 2024, which was reconciliation with the pope that was widely mediaed.
