In April, the works are scheduled to start at the « Flower Bridge from Ungheni » over Prut – the angle – see the world as it is!


Last week officials from Romania and the Republic of Moldova were on a work visit to the place, where the first new bridge will be built after 60 years.

Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu, Secretary of State (Romania), announced in a Facebook post that the beginning of the works for the construction of a new bridge over Prut, which will connect the localities Golaiești (Romania) and Zagarancea (Republic of Moldova) will start on April 26, 2025, and the project, called the « Flower Bridge from Ungheni », will have a historical moment, will be built in the last 60 year old.
This project is part of the initiative « Highway of Unirii A8 » and will facilitate the interconnection of road infrastructures between the two states, thus contributing to the development of the region and the strengthening of connections between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
Details about the project: the total length of the bridge: 261.20 meters, a bridge for each direction of circulation; Bridge width: 13 m (stage I) + 11.25 m (stage II); Width of the carriageway: 8 m; Liaison route: 1 km; Control point for border crossing, equipped with parking and spaces for thorough vehicle verification.

The project will be completed in the autumn of 2026, with European non -reimbursable funding worth over 151.68 million lei.
At the same time, the official mentioned that a symbolic event will be organized, the « Flower Bridge » Festival, which will mark the opening of the works and will celebrate this historical moment for the Romanians on both banks of the Prut.
We mention that it is the first, from the series of the 5 new bridges over the Prut that will be built and for which there are design and execution contracts of the works signed from the autumn of last year.
