In 2025, the DIY-Tovarov market will slow down
A decrease in the general rate of construction, a decline in demand for apartment buildings, difficulties in obtaining a mortgage will result in a slowdown in the growth rate of the DIY-Tovar market, and market participants predict. To this will be added a significant increase in prices for workers’ services due to staff shortage, which forces consumers to stretch repair work for several years. A year ago, 4.3 trillion rubles were sold for repairs and houses, which is 12% more than a year by the year.
In 2025, the growth of the Russian DIY-Tovarov market will slow down to 6–8%, and the Lemana Pro is predicted in the retail network (previously Leroy Merlin). This trend differs from the one that was last year, when retail sales in this retail segment in the whole country increased by 12% of the year, to 4.3 trillion rubles.
According to Infoline, the aggregate sales of the ten largest participants in the DIY market increased by 10.6% year by the year excluding marketplaces.
At the same time, as follows from analysts, in 2024, Ozon increased sales in this category by 1.8 times a year by the year, to 342.4 billion rubles, Wildberries – 2.4 times, to 163.1 billion rubles, “Yandex Market” by 1.2 times, up to 48.2 billion rubles, and “Megamarket” – 1.4 times, up to 32 times, up to 32 billion rubles.
Yandex Market noted that the most demand is the tools for repair and construction, plumbing and electrician. Products for cottage and garden are also popular. In Ozon, growth show positions for draft and finishing. Purchases of facade panels in 2024 grew 3.5 times, stretch ceilings – 3.3 times, PVC tiles – three times.
In January -Marot, in Wildberries, sales of finishing materials increased by 75%year by the year, building materials – by 72%, manual tools – by 43%, said the head of the DIY of the DIY marketplace Evgeny Kvasov. The average check for this period in the online trading decreased by 6% of the year by the year, to 13.9 thousand rubles, however, the number of Internet purchases increased by 26%, calculated in the “OFD platform” (fiscal data operator).
In traditional retail, the average check is much lower, it amounted to 9.4 thousand rubles, although in January -March it increased by 5% year by the year, the OFD platform noted.
The number of purchases in this segment has grown slightly – by only 1%. The company’s experts have been noted on the DIY market to cool consumer demand since the beginning of the year. In their opinion, this was affected by a decrease in consumer lending and the transition of consumers to the savings model.
The general slowdown in consumption was noted by the co -owner of the Maxidom hypermarket chain Maria Evnevich. According to her, last year, sales of the network increased by only 7%, which is slightly less than the average market. Mrs. Evnevich does not expect a significant increase for this year. This is due to the inaccessibility of mortgages and a gradual decrease in housing construction, she explains. “This will also entail a change in demand from construction goods for interior,” the expert says. “Instead of arranging an apartment just purchased, citizens will begin to equip and make cosmetic repairs in existing housing.”
The weather was also affected by the weather in the first three months of the year, said Igor Kolynin, marketing director of the Petrovich STD. According to him, for this period there were sales of goods related to the arrangement of country houses, but the start of the season shifted to the second half of April due to short-term cooling in the center of the country in late March. Buyers began to attract professionals more often to perform work. The share of such customers increased by 6 percentage points per year and reached 47%, says Ekaterina Zhmurova, head of the study of customer behavior and analytics of the Leman Pros. According to the Avito service, the number of masters increased by 9% year by the year. The cost of the services itself increased significantly, noted in Infoline, last year the prices for repair services rose by about 35–40%, for materials – by 14-15%.
