– important project to facilitate sustainable practices, ecological preparedness and strengthening of the community
Alta municipality has entered into an agreement with the newly started association Alta folk garden on the rental of approx. 1800 m² of cultivation area on Flaten farm at Aronnes. This marks the start of an exciting and important project to facilitate sustainable practices, ecological preparedness and strengthening of our community.
The goal of Alta folk garden is to enable members to rent their own parcel for growing vegetables for a reasonable price, while at the same time facilitating joint cultivation of, for example, potatoes, carrots and strawberries.
A common greenhouse will also be erected where plants that cannot stand outside can thrive and grow.
Through courses, lectures and social events, we will create an inclusive and educational community where both beginners and experienced garden enthusiasts can meet.
We invite all interested parties to an open public meeting on Tuesday, May 6 at. 18 at Café Tamsøy at UiT, where we tell more about the project, how to become a member, and what opportunities exist as a member of the Alta Folk Garden.
Maybe you would like to go with a good friend and get a parcel together? Maybe you are a family in an apartment who wants a place to grow vegetables and give the kids the opportunity to get your fingers in the soil?
Maybe you just need an extra place to grow to be self -sufficient with organic potatoes? We start the cultivation of the area in June.
Each member is responsible for growing and preserving his parcel, as well as contributing a few hours of effort throughout the year. The parcels will be distributed according to the first to the mill principle.
If we run out of parcels, we hope to be able to expand the concept in collaboration with Alta municipality, so that everyone who wants to fit.
Sincerely, the board of
