Imamoglou: The Mayor of Istanbul was in custody
The Mayor of Constantinople and the main political opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ekrem Imoglou, was detained.
It is recalled that Imamoglu was arrested this morningas he himself announced via a post on Twitter.

Turkish police arrested Istanbul mayor on Wednesday, a key opponent of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as part of a survey « for alleged corruption and links to terrorism, » media reports said.

The operation comes a few days before the scheduled of the qualifying elections of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), where the 53 -year -old Imamoglou is expected to be selected as its president.
His degree was canceled by the University of Constantinople
On Tuesday it was announced that the University of Constantinople canceled the Mayor's degree, who was ready to receive the candidate for the future presidential election against Erdogan from the Republican Party.
The University Degree is a prerequisite for anyone to be elected and undertaken by the post of the President of Turkey.

Dozens of police have surrounded the mayor's house, as shown footage broadcast Turkish media. According to CNN Turk, police investigated Imamoglou's residence and he was then detained.
Imoglou's associates confirmed to international news agencies that the mayor was arrested and taken to the police.
