Ilir Meta, as part of the Open List of the Alliance for Great Albania, remained outside the Assembly, failing to secure the deputy’s mandate.
The President of the Liberty Party has reacted today from prison, thanking the 8,000 voters who believed in his mandate, and thereby acknowledging the outcome of the deep loss of the opposition on May 11.
Meta says that regarding the ‘voices’ suggesting that MPs resign from the mandate of the MPs who secured seats in the Assembly to leave it to him, he says he will not accept this because he has fought for representation only through the free and open will of the citizens.
“First of all, I thank about 8,000 voters who voted for Ilir Metaj, who resisted the extraordinary pressures of narcotics and sold neither freedom, nor their character in the face of a state criminal machine, which severely violated election standards, democracy and the rule of law under it.
For me they are not voters but heroes and will ever enjoy all my boundless gratitude.
Some benevolent, as well as other devilish voices suggest as a way to obtain my parliamentary mandate, the resignation of the candidates of the Liberty Party in the closed list of Tirana District.
I want to assure everyone that Ilir Metaj since 2008, since the constitutional changes have been made, has fought for representation only through the free and open will of the citizens, consistently and principally, because this is a matter of my conviction and character, and as a result I cannot accept any pragmatic stunt or solutions that I have in contradiction.
I would like to thank and appreciate Tedi Blushi, and other colleagues in the Freedom Party who fought with dedication in this unequal campaign in the face of his narcotics and his criminal electoral machine, infidelity and knives behind his back.
A special thank you to all those commissioners, counting and observers, who are continuing with high perseverance and responsibility to count and defend every vote until the last vote, ”Meta writes.
