Il and free diverge from taxes and fees

Rui Rocha and Rui Tavares diverged this Sunday about taxes, ways to put the country grow and the role of the state in the economy in the debate, transmitted by CNN, to the legislatures between liberal and free initiative.

The president of the liberal initiative explained that the party has “meaning of responsibility” and does not want to go down all taxes, preferring to descend the VAT from construction – “we bet clearly on the descent of VAT and the simplification of processes” – IRS or IRC.

About the IRC, it says that increasing wages has to be a design and so it is necessary to do « everything possible to attract foreign investment. » And it is the only way to tell young people that there is a possibility of staying in Portugal sustainably, « we want many large companies and that big ones come to Portugal, many more companies to pay IRC. »

Earlier, he had accused the leader of the free of defending the descent of VAT and IRS, but then no numbers, answering Rui Tavares that we must wait to see what happens in the global economy and recalled that the free one presented a “proposal for no prime minister to spend the surplus without being approved by parliament.”

Regarding not having accounts, Rui Tavares guarantees that it is not knowing what is the « macroeconomic scenario » remembering the uncertainty caused by the tariffs announced by the US President and a possible « global economic recession. »

Regarding the government’s plan to respond to Trump’s fees, Rui Tavares says “Luís Montenegro has a lot of way for advertising” and that “perhaps it should open consultancy in this area, because it has a lot of way”, arguing that there must be “a rectification budget” to respond to tariffs.

For his part, and about this government support package, Rui Rocha argues that everything is still very « volatile » and that it seems like an « electoralist » announcement, and that at times like this it seems « obvious » that there should be support measures for companies, but « perhaps it was worth waiting for some time to see how things evolve. »

Rui Tavares spoke again of the proposal of 5,000 euros for every baby born in Portugal, but without saying who is entitled: “We think all Portuguese are our children and daughters. We have to have innovative policies that help people enter the job market”, adding that “Free Proposals have all taxation financing”.

Rui Rocha returned with the accusation that the free proposal is « financially irresponsible and socially unfair, » arguing that Portugal needs capital and wealth: « This says: if they can take the heritage here, because it will be taxed. »

In addition, he adds, young people in the middle class are “depleted” and “huge difficulties” and free proposes “delivering a 5,000 euros gift in sovereign debt to all newborns” rather than solving urgent problems.
