Iggy Pop shows what Linkin Park is still missing – DiePresse.com
Day two of the rock festival: Iggy Pop contorted uncompromisingly. Linkin Park came to Austria for the first time after the singer’s death.
« Do you want to press my stomach? » Asks a bearded festival visitor on the second day of Nova Rock and looks loyal to it. He pulled the zipper of his monkey costume under his navel, and proudly stretches out his wamp between the plush. « Here, press! Look how firm it is! » His friends, a 14-member Vorarlberg moped crew, all in the same monkey overall, duties and stroked him over his abdominal hair: « The EDI has the most solid stomach. » Whereupon Edis stomach sets into a small belly dance, in wave-shaped movements it becomes flatter and again, while the sun is slowly falling behind the Burgenland Pannonia Fields and the dusty Nova rock area, from the Dixiklos to the Bungee Jumping Crane, wrapped in orange light.
It is the best time of the rock festival, the early evening in which the hard and tender merging and the sun -drunk lightness of the day squeezed with the anticipation of the main act. This golden hour uses on Thursday on the main stage Iggy Pop. He also stretches his stomach out, but it is different: The 78-year-old Godfather of Punk sweeps over the stage footbridge with dangerous looking physical contortions, which are also due to his scoliosis.

Iggy Pop: Rohe Punk energy with a stiff hip
Loud dog bark opens the appearance, in which he immediately pulls his body from his wiry, furrowed upper body. « I Wanna Be your Dog » is one of his Stooges hits with which he delights the audience, with « The Passenger » and « Lust for Life » he evokes singing choirs, supported by brass. He drops off from the bizarre, often self-injured stage actions by his younger ego. The raw energy with which it shadows, banged and roaring roaring across the stage is still remarkable. The old gentleman rocks with an undistorted expression, not even a zetterl that is out of his pants (that has to scratch that?), Disrupies his uncompromising performance.
« Fucking Thanks for Hanging Out With Us, » he says goodbye. And leaves the main role again to the red fireball, which lowers between wind turbines, while festival visitors pull the bandana cloth (dust protection!) Tear, to make themselves for beer, tattoos or food (« Eat pasta, rock fasta! », A noodle salad promises). Or just perform belly dance in the rock variant. It is a festival, when else should you wear a monkey costume belly -free?
Some women’s voices – also with the headliner
Previously, the Ukrainian metal band Jinjer caused the audience with its unusual clocks difficulties in headbanging-her hit « Pisces », alternately careful by Tatiana Shmayluk and « grown » like an attacking zombie, changes between 7/4 and 6/8. The US singer Poppy also proves similar vocal versatility with her pop metal-amalgamen.

One has to leave the Nova Rock, which – often rightly – is criticized for the always -equal, old program: the headliners may be the same as 20 years ago, but newer voices can be heard in the afternoon slots. And more and more female. This time even with the headliner: The announced highlight is the California band Linkin Park, which was immensely successful in the nineties with their melodic Nu Metal, the elements of pop and hip -hop for for MTV-Deed ears of compatible hardness united. After the singer Chester Bennington 2017, the band dissolved, and last year she started again with Emily Armstrong as the new singer. Now Linkin Park is on world tour that she will lead her back to Austria in 2026.
Linkin Park: stage presence is expandable
« I Wanna Heal, » says the opener « Somewhere I Belong », in which a redeeming arrival is longed for. Does it stay with the pleading? Founding member Mike Shinoda, whose rap singing has shaped the Linkin Park sound as well as Bennington’s scratchy tenor, thanks the fans who received the new cast so warmly: « The reception was something so incredible. »
