Remember to pay in local currency abroad
Many stores abroad offer the possibility that you can pay in Danish kroner for the purchase instead of the local currency, but you must avoid that.
« While it may be great to have the amount presented to your purchase in Danish kroner, this solution is actually a bit more expensive than if you choose to pay in local currency, » says Jens Hjarsbech, chief economist at Mybanker.
In connection with payments abroad, you will sometimes automatically get the price in Danish kroner.
In these cases, you must therefore make an active choice and change the payment to local currency to avoid the more expensive payment method.
Raise cash on the destination
When raising cash in foreign currency, the banks also require a currency supplement.
But it is usually the cheapest to raise cash when you reach the holiday destination, rather than withdraw from home in the bank.
There may be an extra charge by raising foreign currency in your own bank, which especially applies to currencies other than euros if it is an option at all.
If you have foreign cash back after the holidays, you should also be aware that many banks no longer exchange foreign currency back to crowns. If you have a currency other than euro, it is especially difficult to get the money back exchanged.
