Icelandic youngsters can win a free journey


Icelandic youngsters in the age of eighteen are now given the opportunity to win an interrail train pass and travel for free within Europe for thirty days. The Discover EU initiative, under the auspices of the European Union, stands for a lottery where lucky young people will get train passes as well as airline tickets to Evopa.

Open is for applications Until 10.00, April 16, participants answer a few questions and thus go to the pot. This time, those born in the period July 1, 2006 to June 30, may participate, regardless of nationality.

In this round, 51 train passports are included in the share of young people from Iceland. Flights to and from the mainland are also included, but they are booked by a travel agency, not by the participants themselves.

Numerous Icelandic young people have won tickets since Iceland first participated in the lottery in 2022, approx. 100 a year.

Last year, Inga Maria and her girlfriends won a passport pass and they arrived in twelve cities in 23 days.

Get to know the cultural heritage, history and people of Europe

The goal of Discovereu is to open Europe to 18 -year -old young people to get the opportunity to get acquainted with the cultural heritage, history and continent’s people. The train pass can be used virtually unlimited on train tracks in Europe, but the passport is valid for 30 days over a 15 -month period (from July 1, 2025 – 30 September 2026).

It is the Erasmus+ National Agency in Iceland that handles the opportunity, but the applications go through the Erasmus+ youth website in Europe.

In order to participate, Icelandic citizenship or domicile in Iceland must be held, regardless of nationality. It is pulled out twice a year and the current application session is running until April 16.

The train pass can be used virtually unlimited on train tracks in Europe, but the passport is valid for 30 days over a 15 -month period.
