Icelanders’ interest in US trips declined
National interest in traveling to the United States has contracted somewhat after Donald Trump took over as president of the United States. Almost two -thirds of the population say their interest in traveling west across the ocean has decreased, but 2% say their interest has increased. In just over a third, interest has remained unchanged.
This is among what can be seen in the new Gallup National Pulse.

Women’s interest in traveling to the United States has decreased more than in men, but 69% of women say their interest has decreased, while 56% of men say the same. Rural population’s interest has decreased less, with 56% saying that their interest in US trips has contracted compared to 66% in the capital area.
Looking at how people’s answers are depending on which category it chooses, it turns out that the Central Party voters stand out a lot, but it is the only party where the majority says the interest is unchanged. The interest in US trips has only decreased in 24% of respondents. Next thereafter came voters of the Independence Party, half of which say their interest has diminished. In other categories or respondents, the ratio is between 61% and 78%. Then 7% of supporters of both people and the Central Party say that their interest in traveling to the United States has increased after Trump took power.
There is a significant difference between people’s answers in all diagnostic categories. People’s interest in traveling to the United States has diminished more with those with higher education levels.

The question was asked in Gallup’s online survey conducted from 9 to 27 May 2025. The total sample size was 1,916 and the participation rate was 43.6%. Individuals in the sample were randomly selected from the Gallup attitude group.
