Iceland starring in Slovakia
Iceland was starring in Slovak state television on Easter Day when a half -hour long documentary was shown about the travel of young students from Slovakia around the country. The students themselves were involved in the film, both shooting and content, but the project was entitled Studio 25: Island.
One of the relatives of the project is Kristína Domanová a teacher who first stayed in Iceland as an au pair a few years ago. She says the reception has been great:
« This was particularly successful. At Easter, there is a great Mass in Slovakia, and at the same time as the film was shown, Catholic Mass on TV was shown. Despite that, we got almost 50,000 views online. We have also received an incredibly positive response, » says Kristina.
In the film, which is in a loose translation, Iceland – land of fire, ice cream and stories, shows some of the country’s major landmarks as well as interviews with locals. There is the highest interview with the President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, whom the group thought was amazing to be heard.
People with Slovak roots or relationships with Iceland are also discussed. One of those who have a pleasant entry is the doctor and record label Viktor Guðmundsson, who studied medical studies in Slovakia at the time and also began his career as a musician.
Why Iceland?
Kristína says the choice in Iceland as a challenge has been directed.
« We chose Iceland as an inspiring model. Here we see so much that are exemplary to others, people who do not give up, even if nature is difficult. Arnalds, Sigur Rós and writers such as Jón Kalman Stefánsson and Gunnar Gunnarsson. «
The group took houses around the country and, among other things, at Lunch, where the kids watched the recordings of the episode. They also studied the talent competition Skrekk and visited Edda – the Center for Icelandic Studies, where the Slovak Branislav Bedi is the project manager in the international field. The scholar precisely prepared a special textbook for Icelandic studies in Slovak in connection with the project.
The final chicken was such a seminar held at the headquarters of the State TV in Slovakia in mid -April. There, lecturers gave a talk about one and the other Icelandic and the students presented their projects. A short film project that combined small stories, stories and interviews from the Icelandic environment; The Nordic House and Fellaskóli, for example.
Interviewees were of various kinds, Icelandic children and adolescents, but most importantly David Tencer, the Catholic bishop in this country, a Slovak clan as well as other individuals who demonstrated interesting connections between Iceland and Slovak.
Relationships that grow forward
The students ‘travel around the country has therefore, to some extent, highlighted how much the nations’ connection is upon closer examination. Through stories, interviews and personal experiences, it has drawn attention to a variety of connections that already exist, whether it be considered medical students, artists or individuals who have found another home beyond borders.
