« I would increase the VAT from 19 to 21% »

The president of the UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, believes that one of the fiscal measures that should be adopted to reduce the budget deficit is the increase of VAT from 19% to 21%, with the preservation of VAT quotas for medicines and foods.

He responded thus asked on Monday evening at Digi 24, which of the fiscal measures conveyed in the context of the discussions held for the formation of the new government were approved-VAT increase, progressive taxation, increasing tax on dividends.

I would leave the tax, the single share 10%, 16% dividends and 16% profit, because it is perhaps one of the only … facilities or attractiveness for investors, Romania’s competitiveness in the area is in this unique quota. I would increase the VAT, two percentage points, from 19 to 21 and I would accept from 9 to 13, 14, somewhere in the 11.15 area and I would only leave the VAT for food and medicines, « said Kelemen Hunor.

The UDMR leader has set as an example of measures that the tax base for CASS and the cutting of the ‘extravagant’ expenses from the Board of Directors.

‘I would broaden the tax base at CASS, because there are many accepted there. And I would cut all the privileges and all the extravagant expenses from the board of directors, to the bonuses and so on, because there, indeed, there are things that cannot be supported. And then I would make a plan for 3, 4, 5 years, because we cannot solve in one year, not even in 2 years. And yes, we have to stay from investments in the first part, but at the same time, I must say what are the areas where we will invest, because if we cool the economy, we will not have income. You can reduce the consumption a little, maybe inflation increases a little, but if you cool the economy, you have finished. You enter the recession and you will not have income. If it were after me, I would assume in the medium term, for 4-5 years, the reduction of the deficit, so that the shock is not the citizens and is not on the economy, « said Kelemen Hunor.
