In Uden in Brabant, the police arrested five people on Wednesday evening during and after an information evening about three intended reception locations for asylum seekers. It reports that Brabants Dagblad. The municipality of Maashorst wants to create an AZC in Uden and create smaller collections in the adjacent villages of Zeeland and Schaijk. The plan must yield a total of 750 reception places.

Three suspects from Bergeijk, Veghel and Uden were arrested because they would have thrown fireworks and glassware. The men aged 38, 44 and 46 probably wore heavy fireworks. Two men from Uden aged 19 and 39 were also included. They would have thrown stones and probably also used pepper spray, according to the newspaper.

The municipal information evening took place in the Udense Kruisheren Chapel. To gain access to the chapel, the three hundred visitors had to identify for safety reasons. The police were also present.

On the adjacent Lieve Vrouwenplein, a group of approximately 150 to 300 people gathered in a ‘demonstration profession’ behind crush barriers on Wednesday evening. When the information evening was busy for almost an hour, a part of the demonstrators tried to penetrate the chapel, after which twenty agents used armeles to stop the group.

In recent times, protests have more often escalated against the reception of asylum seekers in Noord-Brabant. In Best, the mayor was threatened and demonstrators pelted the town hall with eggs in Berlicum.
