I studied the cruel reality of the human mind
The book « Whisper in the His Abyss » came out in October 2024, and its publication was also announced in the newspaper L Define Libere, which is published in France and the Geneva region of Switzerland. A few weeks before the book is available for a wider reading audience, the topics being written in the book have been subject to a quality discussion of a series of events organized in Switzerland
For the book « Whisper in the His Abyss » by our young author Martina Dodevska, for her longings, aspirations, achievements and goals…
French-Macedonian author Martina Dodevska returns with a new edition of the book « Whispers in the Abyss », previously known as « The Voices ». This collection of introspective stories, whose promotion is announced for spring, explores complex mental health, identity and internal fighting topics.
Dialog with emotions through Marina's « whispers »
Martina began writing stories of « whispers in the abyss » at just 19 years old. Wanting to preserve deep emotions, Martina was prompted to create stories that would be a beacon not only on the track through her life but also light thrown to very dark fifteen and challenges in people's lives. Over time and the experience gained, she got the impression that in some of her stories she remained unexplained or perhaps unbeaten, for « whispers to be louder and hearing wider » ..
– I wrote « The Voices » to save my stories, but something was missing. With time I realized that I needed a deeper analysis, the thinking that I couldn't do then – says our young author originating from Kumanovo, Martina Dodevska.
Therefore, this new release, enriched with deeper psychological analysis, invites the reader to enter deeper into the nausea and the emotions of the characters.
Namely, « whispers in the abyss » explores topics such as loneliness, identity, self -compliance … The author describes the book as a means of opening up a dialogue on the challenges of mental health, a topic that is often taboo, but today is more than necessary.
It is the fact that our young author's book was the starting point for developing many fruitful discussions of events organized in Geneva, Bern and Basel.
« Those meetings showed me how these topics resonate with people, » Martina explains.
To find ourselves in the fast -paced world
According to the participants of the aforementioned events, Martina's « whispers » were awakened and stimulated to talk openly and discuss complex and often neglected topics, such as depression, anxiety, or difficulties in finding themselves in the fast -paced world. These moments of sharing deeply inspired the author to go even further in their thoughts.
– The travels and conversations I had over time opened my new perspectives. Those exchanges, whether in Switzerland or elsewhere, fed the evolution of this book – she adds.
Samples of the book will soon be available in public libraries in Grenoble. This initiative aims to encourage reading and discussions on topics processed in the book, especially for mental health and introspection.
« I hope this book will reach even more people and help open important dialogues, » she said.
The academic path of the young author… Education, science, research… passion and Curiosity
Martina comes from Kumanovo. At the age of 19, she moved to Caen, where she graduated from psychology at Caen University in Normandy. Studies and research were aimed at clinical psychobiology – a scientific discipline that studies the biological foundations of mental disorders.
– I felt that the monitoring of studies was not enough, so I spent time reading appropriate literature on certain topics, I strengthened my knowledge in this domain by following lectures and certificates from Stanford University.
The years spent in Normandy represent perhaps the most challenging period of my life. Because of my studies I spent a lot of time in psychological practices and faced different life stories daily. I was too young and inexperienced in that domain, I didn't fully develop the ability to see those people from a psychoanalytic spectrum, but I felt their fear, anger, sadness and hopelessness. From here, day after day, a series of stories were slowly created, which I kept somewhere deep in my portfolio – says Dodevska.
Searching for better opportunities, he led her life to live and work in cities like Paris, Lyon, to move to Grenoble, considered a French Scientific and Technology Center, and at the Grenoble-Alps University continued with a specialized Master Study for Information Sciences.
– My academic path drew me back and work in a psychiatric hospital, but this time it was a very different perspective, and that is health care. However, psychology has always been much more to me than a profession, that is, passion and curiosity about the human mind, for what we as people are capable of making and what are our restrictions. The environment in which I work allows me to be with people who face lighter or more severe mental illness, or difficulties.
I observe their steps, emotions, their eyes. The more I spent time studying the harsh reality of the human mind, the more I recognized the stigma of mental health that exists in our societies.
Hence, I was inspired to share my stories with others. I carried the emotions I carried within a sheet of paper, which I think my first readers were deeply felt. In November 2021, a print version of my first book, The Voices, came out. This book, seemingly small, contains ten short stories. Some of them are in the form of prose or poetry. Every person we go away on the street brings a story – says Martina.
Meetings with people from different parts of the world, resonance with Persons, characters, minds…
For the past three years she has visited about forty states, and the purpose of these trips has never been to visit a beautiful destination but the author wanted to feel the place and people, to find a resonance with their personality and their mind.
As a result of various discussions, thoughts and shared experiences on these trips, her second book « Bleeding on Paper » has emerged.
– What left me the biggest impression of people from people from different parts of the world was that many of them faced the same challenges that the characters in my first book, « The Voices » talk. Some of them had read the book later and had managed to find themselves in certain parts of the stories. The stories offered them comfort and a feeling that they were not alone, that there was someone who broke them. However, they still could not fully understand what was happening to them or why they were faced with those experiences. At that moment I realized that an artistic psychoanalysis of the characters would bring the stories even more to readers and make this book complete – says Martina.
For the second edition of Martina Dodevska's book, « Whisper in the His Abyss »
I missed the presence of an audience that means to me, and that are readers in Macedonia
Why did young author Martina Dodevska decide to make a second edition of the book?
Namely, renamed « whispers in the abyss » – the second edition of the book is divided into two parts: the first retained the stories of the original issue, and the second contains a brief psychological analysis of the characters and their actions, in order to add a new perspective and greater depth of their experiences.
The book came out in October 2024, and its publication was also announced in the newspaper L Define Libere, which is published in France and the Geneva region of Switzerland. A few weeks before the book is available to a larger audience, the topics that are being written in « whispers in the abyss » were discussed at cultural events organized in Switzerland. The events were held in Geneva, Bern and Basel.
– Although the second edition was successfully accepted, it still lacked the presence of an audience that means to me, and these are readers in Macedonia. For me, as an author, it is deeply emotional for my book to be available in my homeland. The stories are born of my experience and internal struggles, which, although universal, carry specific shades of my cultural heritage and origin. I think that in that culture, in that context, there are people who can identify at an even deeper level with the themes and emotions I process. It is my way to pay back to the community I come from, share my stories and, maybe, to help those who struggle with similar emotions and difficulties. I want my book to be a bridge that connects people of different cultures and backgrounds, but at the same time reaching the roots from where my journey began – says Martina.
« Nova Makedonija » to publish Feljan in several sequels with parts of the book « Whisper in the His Abyss » selected by young author Martina Dodevska, through which readers of our newspaper will get acquainted with interesting characters, their actions and psychological analysis…
