The Russian president was « not a villain », but « flash »: Vladimir Putin obviously impressed and really impressed the US specialist Steve Witkoff at her meeting in Moscow about ten days ago. « I liked him, he was honest with me, » said Witkoff in an interview with the ultra-right US star moderator Tucker Carlson.

Putin, who raid the Russian neighboring country of Ukraine in 2022, is a « great leader » for Witkoff. And Ukraine was not a real state, the confidante of Donald Trump repeated Kremlin slogans to moderator Carlson. He wondered when the world is ready to accept the occupied territories in Ukraine as « Russian ». He made it clear indirectly with his words: The US government sees the Ukraine War primarily as a conflict on the control of territories. Sovereignty rights play a rather subordinate role for Washington, if at all.
However, according to Witkoff, the United States still wishes an agreement « with which everyone can live ». Before the new round of talks about a ceasefire in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, he was confident. Despite the clear reluctance of Putin after his conversation with US President Donald Trump, Witkoff is convinced: « Putin wants peace. » Putin does not claim all of Europe, the situation is very different from the Second World War. It remained open what the US envoy said with “all of Europe”.
