« I just felt I was stored »

« I just felt that I was stored watching TV for a year and just be back in the same place when I came back out, » says Ásgeir Þór Nordgulen about his experience of the prison system.

Ásgeir shared his experience of peer support, a prison company for improved prison, at the company’s birthday conference yesterday.

He says he has started a young man, first went to prison at the age of 18 and has now served imprisonment five times. Then he talks about having found some tension and escape in breaking, but his father had been consumed for a long time and in prison himself.

« There was some flash in their eyes »

Asgeir says he did not realize with his first prison that he was actually in prison. He was soon placed in prison and stroked twice.

He says it is important for the government to consider how they want people to come back to the community after imprisonment. He himself has now served five times and experienced every time he had been stored and then returned to exactly the same place as he was before, with the exception of the last sentence.

Then he got peer support in the prison and « saw that there was something to happen to them, there was some flash in the eyes of the ones I wanted so in ».

« They helped me a lot, just came to me on this peer basis and I knew they understood what I was saying and it was so important to me.

« I’m proof, it’s just that »

Peer support has enabled Asgeir to be allowed today to be the father of his children, participate in society and help others who matter to him.

« I have many friends who are still in there.

This is what this has to offer and this is very important for me and the boys, Thorlák and Ingolf, who started with this, ”he says, referring to Thorlák Ara Ágústsson and Ingolf Snæ Víðisson, peer counselor, who also shared their experience at the company’s birthday.

Ásgeir says peer support is a great remedy that gets many prisoners to change their mind, but they often have it to be offended when professionals talk to them.

« We look at them and just think » you are just a college -educated person and I believe and don’t trust you « , but when there are people who have been in the same position as them you can talk to us well.

I’m proof, it’s just that. «
