I didn’t steal the internet access of the neighbors
« Well planned is half won » – that is our family motto. Working hours have to be coordinated with school times, plus a dog puppy that follows its own rhythm. Sometimes I am sure to have thought of everything. But then … just almost.
This is how it happened a few days ago: The electrician stood in front of the door to connect our photovoltaic system. He kindly announced: « I then put your electricity from this morning to around 3 p.m. » I would have liked to see what my face looked like at that moment. The possibility of one day without electricity did not appear in my head at all.
No electricity, of course, means: no internet connection. And without internet, my work is difficult to do. After all, the times of the typewriter are over. The electrician looked briefly irritated because he thought he had done something wrong. But no, he couldn’t help it. On the other hand, I was just excessively annoyed by myself – which of course promptly turned in a bad mood.
Because as I soon stated, no electricity also means: no refrigerator, no freezer.
First of all, a solution was needed. Yes, working through the mobile hotspot, but this is not a permanent option either. After some back and forth I found shelter from the neighbors, or rather in their WiFi (a big thank you at this point).
Problem solved (for now). Because as I soon stated, no electricity also means: no refrigerator and no freezer. And there is the frozen dog food. Fortunately, everything remained intact.
If you want to go to this pool, you have to go past soldiers with machine guns
For lunch I went back to our house – and made a discovery: I was actually able to dial from the living room to the WLAN of the neighbors. The signal was strong enough. From then on I worked again on home – with a foreign network. Don’t worry, dear neighbors: Our own internet subscription remains …
From the life of the LW journalists
The “gazettchen” is an informal column in which the authors legally tell about their everyday experiences or even give an insight into their thoughts. This has a long tradition: On December 3, 1946, an opinion with the title « Today » appears for the first time at the top of the side left on the first local side in the « Luxemburger Word ». On January 13, 1971, the « Gazettchen », which has been extremely popular with readers, then became the « gazette », which has kept its Premium-Platz in Luxembourg’s top-class daily newspaper to this day and across all layout.
