« I always try to dream more » – the angle – you see the world as it is!

For Constantin Popovici, painting is not only a form of expression, but an inner journey. Originally from Ungheni and established in Timisoara for almost 10 years, he has developed an artistic style marked by diversity, exploring various techniques and themes. Recently, he opened the exhibition « Solilocviuri », a project that transposes its experiences on canvas and invites the public into a visual exploration of his emotions.
In this interview, we talk about how it was formed as an artist, what this exhibition means to him and how he sees his future in the world of art.

– How did you get to study in Timisoara?
-It was an unexpected decision, but my parents totally supported me. After completing my high school studies, I submitted the documents to several high schools with artistic inclination in Romania, and finally I was assigned to Timisoara. Initially I was not very pleased because I had been in a city far away from home, but over time, I managed to make friends and fall in love with him. Thus, I remained here to continue my license studies at the Western University, and this year I have to defend my dissertation work.

– In what way did this city influence your artistic style?
– I felt a significant transition, because compared to Timisoara, Ungheni is a very quiet and calm city. With the change of entourage, my style became more dynamic and expressive certainty, reflecting personal experiences that the previous works did not have.

– What message did you want to convey through the works of the exhibition « Solilocviuri »?
– I wanted to present and show my experiences until the day of the last painting made. For me it is a passion to follow and identify certain moments of the surrounding world, which is why much of the exhibition occupies the landscapes. I am fascinated by any detail that I can see from a different perspective from the usual one. Each work I wanted to resonate with me first, and then already with the others who will see it.

– What techniques and materials did you use in this exhibition?
– I used a variety of styles at this exhibition, starting in the pencil on paper, watercolor, tempera and oil on canvas. The works are very precious to me, marking each stage of my artistic path because they have been painted over several years.

– Is there an exhibition work that has a special significance for you? If so, which and why?
– Yes, it is called « as a deer wants water springs ». The work itself represents my diploma project, which I worked intense. I had to research, inform myself and find something suitable for myself to create, but also to represent something for others who will see this work. Its name also has a biblical connotation, being the first verse in Psalm 42, which sounds as follows: « How a deer wants water springs, so my soul wants you, God! » I wanted to show that the soul of every man thirsts for something.

– The launch of the exhibition took place on March 27, once symbolic. What is the connection between this historical event and your opening?
-This year marks the 107th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, an event quite symbolic for our country. I thought it would be a perfect possibility to start the exhibition on this day, especially since we as Bessarabians have this wonderful opportunity to study in Romania and to enjoy certain facilities.

-If you were to define your artistic style in a word, what would that be?
– Certainly, diversity. I cannot say that I am faithful to a certain artistic style, because I am attracted by several different areas of painting, from realism to abstract and many more.

– Is painting more about talent or hard work?
– I think the painting begins with the desire. Of course, talent is also very important, but only by showing interest you can find out if you really like it. Then there is a lot of study that contributes to the artistic development and the definition of talent. There should always be a balance between talent and work.

– What advice would you offer to young artists from the Republic of Moldova who want to make a career in painting?
– It is very important to go this way with great sincerity. Each work should be a true experience, to be done with all the heart, because only this way they will be able to resonate with others. A painting is the first impression of people about you, as they see you as an artist. That is why it is essential to give the best.

– Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
-I see myself, for sure, here in Timișoara, because somehow I put some roots in this place. I have a family, I have friends here, I already feel that this city is about me. In the artistic level, I see myself having as many exhibitions, both in Timisoara and in Europe. I always try to dream for more. I want stability here, but at the same time, I always seek to evolve and improve.
